1) What you think is the point behind the Avatar marketing is?

I think that the reason behind the marketing of Avatar is to try and get people to go and see the movie when it comes out.

2) Where you have come across it?

I have found marketing for Avatar at these websites:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(2009_film)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/
http://www.avatar.co.nz/resources/avatar-the-movie.html

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/movie/avatar/
http://www.empireonline.com/futurefilms/film.asp?id=133552
http://www.movieset.com/avatar

they tell us information about the film.

3) Were you were affected by it in any way?

I thought that by the trailers it looks like a very technically film that will be set in the future.

4) What message the campaign is trying to communicate

The campaign is trying to communicate to people of all ages to try and get them to see the film when it comes out in cinemas. They are doing this by putting it on all sorts of websites

5) The overall strategy for communicating that message — shock, surprise, charm, persuasion by rational arguments etc

I think that the overall strategy is Shock, Surprise because you don’t know what is going to happen with how it is filmed and also suspense because people that don’t know about the film and have only been told about it by people wont know what is going to happen in it.

6) The items that have been used in the campaign (eg posters, flyers, television adverts)

Things that have been used are posters, adverts, trailers and sides of buses, these all have information about the film and help the audiences understand what the film is about and when it is being realised.

7) What is similar about the items in this campaign — what tells us that they are all part of the same campaign.

The things that tell us that they are all about the same campaign is that every site will have the poster on or the trailer of some sort.

8) Who is targeted by the campaign?

I think that the target audience for the film would be 15-25 but maybe some 12 year old's might like the film and want to go see it.

9) How the people that created the campaign have tried to reach that target audience?

They have tried to reach the target audience by having the trailers and posters up with every website. They also have the plot on most of them which is good because most people like to ready what it is about before they go see it. They also have articles of it in the papers to try and catch peoples eye.

10) The strengths of the campaign and how successful it is in communicating its message.

The strengths of the campaign and how successful they are with communicating its message are:

The have loads of websites that are advertising Avatar.
They have posters and trailers on the websites so the audience can see what the film is about.

11) Any weaknesses in the campaign and how it could be improved.

The weaknesses in the campaign are that some of the websites that they are on some people might not see it because they won’t be looking for the film so they might never know that it is there. It can be improved by putting adverts on to websites that most people go on to everyday.

12) Whether you were already aware of this campaign.

I wasn’t aware of the campaign because I didn’t know the film was going to be coming out because I wasn’t looking to go and watch the film. I only found out when someone at college was talking about it and I saw the advert.

13) How is star power used in the campaign?

The Director is James Cameron and the films he has done in the past that has made him famous are Titanic, the Terminator films and aliens.

14) Is there a message in the marketing about society’s set of beliefs?

Some people might think that the war in the film could be linked to the war in Iraqi and Afghanistan. Also the fact that some people might think that there is another creature living out in space and this film has feature technology in it.

15) How is technology used to market Avatar? Are there forms which use this approach more than others?

The technology uses to market the film are with the coke cola advert they use to advertise Avatar was good because they advertise cola but it is in 3d but they you don’t need 3d glasses to see it.
